Ten years ago, I learned that a new collaborative space for creatives called Artscape Daniels Launchpad was being built close to Toronto’s waterfront by The Daniels Corporation, Artscape, The City of Toronto, and other parties, and that it would essentially be an innovative hub where artists could learn business skills and turn their pursuits into profitable ventures.

Caroline Robbie, the lead designer on the project recently told Toronto Life that “there’s a disparity between the amount of training creatives get and their relative lack of income,”, and she added that “so many of them are forced to supplement their pay by working other jobs, and we want them to be able to focus on their creative work”, I share Robbie’s sentiments in regards to the life of the typical artist in Toronto and elsewhere, and I believe that spaces like Artscape Daniels Launchpad are needed today more than ever.

With that said, I initially learned about the venture through my colleagues at The Remix Project and Manifesto Community Projects, I was excited about the fact that both organizations and many others (like HXOUSE) would be based in the same location, and I promoted the early stages of the project through my company’s blog.

As construction of the space came close to completion two years ago, one of my colleagues and business partners Chris Penrose of Watr Vision Creative reached out to me in regards to collaborating with a group of artists and entrepreneurs to develop insights and solutions related to systemic challenges within Toronto and Canada’s arts and entertainment communities, through Design Sessions via Artscape Daniels Launchpad. As such, I was involved in influencing the organization’s programming during its early stages.

Recently, my colleague and client Casey Yugo reached out to me about speaking on a panel for this weekend’s Summit at Launchpad — a 2-day event with an emphasis on the marketing, sales and technical skills needed to stand out in an increasingly digital world.

And so, at 11:30 AM tomorrow morning — the morning of Saturday, November 30, 2019, I will be on a Summit panel for photographers, I will be focusing on the tools, habits, paradigms, and relationships that artists and entrepreneurs will need to professionally thrive in the 21st century, based on my subjective experiences and the trial and error that I have engaged in professionally over the years, my colleague and mentor Director X will be speaking about Operation Prefrontal Cortex, mental health, meditation, storytelling, the highlights of his career, and far more on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 4:05 PM, and tickets for the amazing event can be purchased here.
