If you have yet to view Erykah Badu’s latest music video, for her new single, entitled “Window Seat”, it can be viewed below (via Rap Radar).
“Window Seat” has received a great deal of press and controversy over the course of the last two weeks, due to the fact that Erykah Badu literally bares all in the music video.
Apparently, the iconic musician was forced to pay a fine that was around the amount of $500 (USD), “for disorderly conduct for stripping naked while filming a video” in the Dallas, Texas plaza where former American President, John F. Kennedy was assassinated, according to “The New York Times”.
I really appreciated the guerilla filming approach that was utilized by the director of photography for “Window Seat”, and I also liked the vintage style of post-production that was employed, to give the video the same appearance as the film used to document John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
I also thought that the premise of “Window Seat” was great, and that it was very honest of Badu as an artist, to challenge the fear mongering, political propaganda, and group think-based ideologies that define the so-called “American Dream” and its self-assassinating nature.
It’s unfortunate that such a strong piece of visual artwork has received so much negative attention, simply because Badu was nude for a short amount of time, and also considering the fact that visual artists such as Spencer Tunick produce public works which incorporate high volumes of nudity all the time.
I am definitely looking forward to taking in Badu’s new album, “New Amerykah Part Two (Return of The Ankh)” and more information on the musician is available here:
