PETA has recently launched it’s latest environmental campaign, entitled “Be Comfortable In Your Own Skin: Don’t Wear Fur”.

This new campaign has been launched with nude images of British model, Keeley Hazell.

The model has stated that “Once you learn how the fur trade treats animals, it’s impossible to think of wearing fur as sexy or glamorous,” and that “I believe that killing animals for vanity is wrong.”

This is obviously an environmental campaign that it utilizing sex to “sell”, but the message that PETA’s selling seems so much more ethically-justifiable than an advertising campaign with a capitalist agenda. If anything, because the online and television-based media environments are so over-saturated with images of sex and violence, this may be the only way in which organizations such as PETA, WWF and others can reach their target audiences.

PETA advertisements of this nature essentially use the often deceiving and detrimental media filters, described by Philosophers such as Chomsky, but for an ultimately good cause.
